Star Wars: The Return of the Jedi

Suitable for all iconStar Wars Episode VI

Star Wars The Return of the Jedi is the 3rd installment in the original trilogy, which involves Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) completing his training. This movie is no different from its prequels with nerving lightsaber battles, this one includes a battle between Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker, with the Emperor helping Vader along the way.

While Luke is busy fighting his father, Han Solo and the rest of the Rebel Alliance attempt to blow the newly constructed Death Star to pieces. A great movie to end the original trilogy!

The Royal Armouries

The Royal Armouries

'BANG!' shouted the cannon as I launched it into the opposition's base.
'Good Shot!' said my friend Jack, who was on the Allies, just like me. It was war; half the battlefield was fire, a quarter was dead bodies and the remaining land was weapons and people. The Germans thought that they could take us down with a surprise attack in Leeds. They must have used some tracking device to track our coach from Preston to Leeds- but where could they have hidden it? What if they put it in one of our bags? I shuddered at the thought that someone might have taken my bag and put something in it without me even noticing. The storm was brewing and the thick, heavy clouds were shooting sparks: lightning.
'Wake up!' said Jack, stopping my mind from wandering away. 'We are surrounded!'. I looked around and, even though I didn't want to believe it, I realised that what he was saying was true: the Nazis were everywhere! I started running, not knowing which direction to run in. I heard Jack shouting some words in the background, but I ignored him. Gunshots were sounding in the background, but i carried on running until the world just turned upside-down: I had tripped over a corpse! I gently touched my forehead and looked at it: red. Blood red. Everything went blurry as I rested my head on a log. I had passed out!
'Mark! Mark! Come on! It's time to go honey.' said my Mum as I stopped pretending it was World War II, 'Jack! You too! Your Mum just called!' I took one last glimpse at the cannons and strolled away to the horizon.

The Empire Strikes Back

The Empire Strikes Back is the second movie of the Original Trilogy where Luke Skywalker begins his training and where he meets Yoda: a wise Jedi  who guides him and instructs him on how to deal with his anger.

It kicks off when Luke and the other rebels are chillling in their new base at Hoth, and the imperial troops discover their hiding place. While Han and Leia escape in the Millennium Falcon, Luke travels to Dagobah in search of Yoda

When he finds out that his friends are in grave danger, he leaves his lessons halfway to go save them. Little does he know, that he is not a Jedi yet. The movie ends after an epic duel with Darth Vader, and after Luke finds out a terrifying truth.

Hudl 2 Review

Hudl 2 Review

It was only a matter of time before someone aside from Google would produce a cheap tablet which offers the full Android experience. But who knew it would be Tesco?

In the past year, the Hudl 2 has grown up, from frumpy 7in device to a funky 8.3in, Full HD tablet and yet the price has barely risen; it's only £99.

Tesco has invested a lot of time in the design. The soft-touch plastic finish feels pleasant under the finger, and it’s comfortable to hold, with rounded corners and no sharp edges, plus it’s available in eight bright colours: orange, blue, black, white, turquoise, red, purple and hot pink. There are two big speakers on both sides of the back of the Hudl 2:  They reach high volumes, and are surprisingly clear for such a reasonably priced tablet. The Hudl 2 recently beat the iPad Mini 3 in a serious Speed test.

If a kid receives this tablet, then no parent would need to worry due to the Child Safety app. This app works with Android’s existing profiles system, but provides three extra ways of keeping a lid on your kids' tablet use. The Web safety part provides a category-based website blocker, so children are only able to access safe online content, while adult and other inappropriate pages (such as gambling and shopping sites) are blocked.Parents have control over which categories are blocked, and it's also possible to make exceptions, for those websites that are deemed safe but have been blocked for one reason or another. The second tool at parents' disposal is the Time limits feature. Here, each child gets a time slot during which he or she is allowed to use the tablet. And within each of those time slots, parents can also choose to limit the maximum length of time the tablet can be used. You could, for example, allow usage between 16:00 and 19:00 during the week and all day at the weekend, but only ever allow it to be used for a total of two hours on any of those days. Finally,it's possible to block apps you've installed on the tablet's main account; this comes in handy if you're a fan of first person shooters, but don't want them launching those games by accident.

Hudl 2 vs Hudl

The Hudl 2 is currently priced at £99, £30 more than its predecessor, the Hudl 1. But is the upgrade worth it?

The Hudl 2 has a sleeker design than the original Hudl, with speakers on the back of the Hudl 2 to improve its sound. Also, the Hudl 2 has twice the number of colours available than its predecessor; it is available in 8 different colours rather than the original's 4 different colours. As predicted, the screen size has increased from 7 to 8.3in.  Resolution has also jumped from 1440x900 to 1920x1200 so around 30 ppi extra which is good. The screen on the Hudl 2 is probably its best feature because it's not just resolution which has improved – brightness, viewing angles and responsiveness are all better.

Tesco says that the Hudl 2 is three times faster than its predecessor. It uses an Intel Atom quad-core processor clocked at 1.83 GHz while the original uses a 1.5 GHz A9 quad-core chip. Memory has doubled to 2 GB of RAM. Upgrades continue with cameras now at 5Mp compared with 3Mp but strangely the front camera has dropped from 2- to 1.2 Mp.

The Hudl 2 comes pre-loaded with Android 4.4 KitKat and, like its predecessor, Google's operating system is mostly as intended. There are similar bits of additional software though which you can ignore if you like.

Star Wars IV

STAR WARS: A NEW HOPE

Star Wars IV is a great movie, set in Tatooine about a 21 year old called Luke. It begins when Darth Vader and his Stormtroopers break into a Rebel Ship and brutally interrogates many rebels for the location of the Rebel Base. The story then goes to Luke (a farm boy) and Obi-Wan Kenobi. Obi-Wan persuades Luke Skywalker to learn the ways of the Force and that they need to go to another planet named Alderaan.
They travelled in the ship Millenium Falcon with their allies Han Solo, Chewbacca, C-3PO and RD-2D.

They were looking for Princess Leia, but were lured into the Death Star- the Empire's deadly weapon which has the strength to blow up any planet.

They later found out that Princess Leia was held hostage by the evil forces of the Galactic Empire in their effort to take over the galaxy in the Death Star. Luke, Han Solo and Obi-Wan teamed together to rescue the Princess. The movie went on to many missions, including blowing up the Death Star. It's a great movie.

END OF THE HOLIDAY

END OF THE HOLIDAY

"What day do you go back to school, Horace?" asked his grandmother one day.

"Well," Horace replied, "Nine days ago, the day before yesterday was five weeks before the fourth day of term."

If Horace had this conversation on a Sunday, what day of the week did he start school?

Man Utd vs Everton

MANCHESTER UNITED VS EVERTON

Everton hosted Manchester United in the Barclays Premier League at Goodision Park on 26/04/15; these are the highlights.

GOAL! McCARTHY!
EVERTON MAKE IT 1-0 IN 5 MINUTES!
5'

The home team have the early start as Everton's counter-attack leaves McCarthy with three United players to beat (the keeper and two defenders) and he finishes brilliantly in a tight place.

GOAL! STONES!
EVERTON DOUBLE THEIR LEAD!
35'

This was just unlucky as the United defense clear away two of Leighton Banes' corners but in the third Stones sent a powerful shot into the corner

GOAL! MIRALLAS!
EVERTON SEAL THE VICTORY!
74'

The home team seal the win as Valencia hesitates and tried to play Lukaku offside from Barkley's through pass, only to forget about the midfielder right behind him and the Belgium calmly side-foots the ball past a helpless De Gea.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

HARRY POTTER AND THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS

Harry Potter and the Chamber Of Secrets is an exciting book- written by J.K Rowling. It is also a very famous movie. It is the sequel to Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. Harry Potter and his friend Ron Weasley got off to a bad start to their second year at Hogwarts as they missed the train, forcing them to use Ron's flying car- which is forbidden to be used in front of Muggles (people who cannot use magic). This made them late for school.

Later on in the year, many disasters occurred in Hogwarts. Harry's friend Hermione almost died, and many other students had died. Harry knew that all this was something to do with the Chamber of Secrets: a restricted area which is known to have a beast inside. Harry found the diary of Tom Riddle, which he found out that he could talk to Tom Riddle through the diary. He asked Tom Riddle what he knew about the Chamber of Secrets but Tom didn't reveal anything.

Then, Harry went on to explore for himself as he faced many ups and downs on the way. It is a great book!

Artemis Fowl

The winner of last week's competition (who correctly stated the answers to this puzzle) was DIWANT VADYA. The answers were as follows:

Answer: Edward!
Answer: 110 km (the next palindrome is 16061)

ARTEMIS  FOWL

This was the review he wrote as a guest blogger:

Artemis Fowl is a great read for any teenager considering being a super smart billionaire arch villain, or even any teenager who enjoys reading about super smart billionaire boy geniuses planning mega heists from the fairy folk.

That's right, fairy folk.  You see, Artemis is a very bright boy looking to restore the fortune of his family's criminal empire and rescue his father, a man kidnapped by the Russian mafia.  Smart young Artemis and Butler, his butler and bodyguard, search the world for legendary fairy gold, certain and sure that a) it can be found and b) it can be stolen!

Holly Short, Julius Root, and Foaly are two fairies and a centaur who stand between Artemis and the fairy gold.  Holly, a captain of the LEPrechaun recon division of the LEP (Lower Elements Police), flies unwittingly into Artemis's trap and sets the game afoot.

Will Holly escape the trap sprung upon her?  Will Artemis finally steal the fairy gold?  Can Short and Root prevent their treasure from being stolen by a teenage criminal mastermind?  Read this exciting book and find out!

This reviewer found himself delighted by Artemis's Fowl's first and consequent adventures.  Eoin Colfer has done a wonderful job of pulling in the reader to a world of boy masterminds, heroic fairy folk, and large sized bodyguard butlers.  Lovely characters and exciting plots and plot twists afford this book a read by all teenagers seeking adventure.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone Review

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone

This book (and movie) is the first of many more; it is about an 11-year-old boy whose parents were murdered by Lord Voldemort- the most evil, merciless wizard who attempted to kill Harry and his parents, using the spell: Avada Kedavra. Despite Harry's parents dying, Harry survived as when Voldemort attempted to kill him some of Voldemort's powers were transferred to Harry, leaving a scar on his face. Then, Dumbledore (the greatest wizard of all time who was also the Headmaster of Hogwarts School) gave Harry to his nasty Aunt, Uncle and his mean cousin Dudley.

10 years later, on Dudley's birthday they all went to the zoo. Before leaving, Harry's uncle brutally warned Harry that if he misbehaves in the zoo then he would be in a lot of trouble. However, when Voldemort  transferred some of his powers to Harry, one of these powers was the ability to speak to snakes in their language (Parseltoungue). So when Harry came across a snake in the zoo he without knowing started to speak to the snake. With the ability to use magic, he accidentally got rid of the glass between him and the snake-causing the snake to leave- and accidentally putting Dudley on the other side of the glass (he put the glass back). Once it had all been sorted, his Uncle locked him in a cupboard underneath the stairs and made that his bedroom.

After this, many events occurred leading Harry to a decision he had to make when a giant called Hagrid appeared in his house asking if Harry would like to come to Hogwarts School where magic was taught. Harry accepted this and from that point onwards he faced many problems including coming across Voldemort. This is a great book!

The Wall Book Reiew

THE WALL REVIEW
The Wall is an action-packed and adventure book written by William Sutcliffe was published on April 11,2013. It without doubt deserved to be shortlisted  for the Guardian Fiction Prize.

To summarise this exciting story, it is a book about a teenage boy called Joshua whose football gets kicked over -by his annoying friend David- into a site which Joshua thought was a building site. So Josh went to look for it due to the fact that it was a new ball. However, he was wrong in thinking it was just a building site; it was actually a tunnel leading him into the other side of the wall. The Wall is a wall that keeps Josh's side away from the other side. Both sides show immense animosity towards each other as they both are at war. Any one seen on the wrong side would be shot immediately. Nevertheless, Josh still headed down the tunnel and faced a colossal amount of dilemmas on the way: including being chased and Josh felt burned by a debt that he has to fight to repay. His Dad died when he was very young due to the same war that was going on when Joshua entered the tunnel. Therefore, Josh's Mum remarried to Liev, Josh's step-father. Josh hated Liev. He felt that Liev took too much credit for bringing him up and that Liev continuously acted as if he was Josh's dad, when he was only a step-father. Josh was forbidden to go anywhere near The Wall. Josh turned into a troubled and terrified boy as the days he was on the wrong side of The Wall passed.
It is a book that is not for the faint-hearted reader who isn't interested in adventure and action. It is a book that can actually be quite scary at times, mainly because the brilliant author William Sutcliffe hooks you in the book so much that it makes you feel that you are Joshua and you are experiencing the same problems that Joshua faces.

This is why The Wall is a great book! It is targeted for young adults, aged around 13 years old.

William Sutcliffe tells the story in a lot of different ways, showing variety. The scene where Liev finds out that Joshua has been going to the tunnel to get to the other side of The Wall makes the reader feel so sorry for Josh and Leia's (the girl who Josh met on the other side of The Wall) father when Liev points at him and punches Liev's step-son on the face.

The Wall has affected Joshua in many ways, including a drop in grades. However, his mother always stayed at Josh's side despite whatever happened outside their house.

The Wall is a gripping and an action-packed book!

Watch Dogs Review

Image result for pegi 18WATCH_DOGS REVIEW

Watch dogs (often stylised as Watch_Dogs) is a PEGI 18 rated game published by Ubisoft. It is a game set in modern day times in the outskirts of Chicago;  it is about hacking- in the opening scene it refers to hackers as modern day magicians. The hero, Aiden Pearce, is an empty trenchcoat as far as personality goes. It’s remarked at one point that he’s suppressing his personality, so it must be intentional, but it doesn’t make him a strong character. Fortunately the supporting cast is much more interesting. An enthusiastic and cavalier fixer, a gang leader who I affectionately refer to as Avon Barksdale: Superhacker, and a soft-spoken mob boss steal the show and make it a likeable and well-acted group. Character animations are elegantly done, too.
Watch Dogs blends cutting-edge technologies and sophisticated game design into a realistic and living open world where players must use any means at their disposal to take down a corrupt system.
Watch Dogs’ completely open map is another big strength: it’s huge, diverse, and intricately detailed. The rural area of Pawnee balances out Chicago’s urban sprawl, and it all looks great, especially at sunset or during a rainstorm. Everything runs at a smooth 30 frames per second, however, after playing for a few hours I did start to experience frequent slowdowns when new mission objectives were loading up. Fortunately they never happened when anything interesting was going on, but they’re definitely noticeable and get progressively worse as the story goes on.
Watch dogs has an immense diversity of vehicles that you can easily drive; there are also many missions to play. The main story line (no spoilers are coming) is that Aiden Pierce's niece was murdered by someone and he wants to get back at that person. However, it is not as simple as it sounds, there are many other twists and turns during the game with many other side missions as well.
Watch dogs also provides a great chance of playing online (unfortunately it can't do offline multiplayer) multiplayer against your friends and other players. You can race, hack and loads more. It is a great game!

Crossy Road Review

CROSSY ROAD
Crossy Road is an app on the App Store (for ios), Google Play Store (for Android) and Windows Store. It is rated 9+ on the App Store due to fantasy violence and infrequent swearing. It is about a chicken (but later on one can unlock more characters) who has to cross many roads and rivers. However, it is not as boring as it sounds. In fact, it can get really addictive!
It was released on November 20, 2014 developed by the indie company Hipster Whale. The question of the game is: Why did the chicken cross the road? There are 89 characters to unlock on Crossy Road, 78 which are unlockable from the prize machine (where you have to pay 100 coins to unlock a random character), and 11 that are Secret Characters which can only be unlocked through various unique methods, like running into them while playing. For example, in order to get the unique 'Hipster Whale' you need to land on him in the river.
