END OF THE HOLIDAY

END OF THE HOLIDAY

"What day do you go back to school, Horace?" asked his grandmother one day.

"Well," Horace replied, "Nine days ago, the day before yesterday was five weeks before the fourth day of term."

If Horace had this conversation on a Sunday, what day of the week did he start school?

CHRISTMAS PUZZLE
According to the traditional song, on the first day of Christmas (25th December), my true love sent to me:

. A partridge in a pear tree

On the second day of Christmas (26th December), my true love sent to me THREE presents:

. Two turtle doves
. A partridge in a pear tree

On the third day of Christmas (27th December and so on) my true love sent to me SIX presents:

. Three French hens
. Two turtle doves
. A partridge in a pear tree

This carries on until the twelfth day of Christmas, when my true love sends me:

Twelve drummers drumming
Eleven pipers piping
Ten lords a-leaping
Nine ladies dancing
Eight maids a-milking
Seven swans a-swimming
Six geese a-laying
Five gold rings
Four calling birds
Three French hens
Two turtle doves
A partridge in a pear tree

After the twelve days of Christmas are over, how many presents has my true love sent me altogether?

Mum's Journey

Answer this week's competition first to be featured on this blog with a essay of your own! Email the answer or answers to anibanerjee2003@gmail.com.

Mum's Journey

Edward's Mum has three children: May, June and...? Who is the third child?

Then, Edward's Mum left London to go on a round-the-world journey with her children. She noticed she had travelled 15951 kilometers since leaving London. She saw that this number is a palindrome and she decided to look out for the next one. Two days later, she noticed that this distance was again a palindrome.

How far did they travel in those two days?
